Today, I want to dedicate this post to one of the most heart-driven human beings you could ever meet in Tyler, Texas: Jackson. Over the past year alone, she has achieved so much, embodying the true spirit of community service and entrepreneurship. I’d like to take this opportunity to share some of the remarkable things she has accomplished recently, which highlight her incredible impact on our community.
One of her standout achievements is the development and launch of an extraordinary nonprofit called EmpowerNet. This organization serves as an advocacy and resource hub, connecting underrepresented areas of education and support. Through her visionary leadership and the dedicated efforts of the EmpowerNet board, Jackson has inaugurated two flagship festivals — events that I call “festivals” because they are genuinely celebrations of progress and community spirit.
The first of these events is the KIDpreneur Festival, a vibrant gathering that encourages young entrepreneurs to embrace their passions and recognize that pursuing what they love can lead to financial independence. This festival is all about celebrating creativity, determination, and the limitless possibilities available to kids with big dreams. It features workshops, mentorship opportunities, and showcases for young entrepreneurs to demonstrate their innovative ideas, inspiring the next generation to take charge of their futures.
Next, we have the Black Wellness Expo, which is strategically held in February to coincide with Black History Month. This expo serves as an essential bridge for Black wellness and mental health resources in East Texas, providing vital connections and support to the African-American community. It emphasizes the importance of holistic health, self-care, and community engagement, and serves as a bold step toward celebrating Black health while creating a network of resources that are often overlooked in this region. The expo features speakers, health screenings, wellness workshops, and opportunities for attendees to connect with professionals who are dedicated to their well-being.
